Acrtic Cod Liver Oil - 100 capsules

Cod liver oil, as the name implies, comes directly from the liver of codfishes and is a specific type of fish oil. Like regular fish oil, it’s high in omega-3 fatty acids which provide many great health benefits for your heart, skin, and brain.* However, Cod liver is also high in naturally occurring vitamin A and vitamin D, giving cod liver oil an incredibly nutritious profile.*

Cod Liver Oil is a whole-food supplement that has been used for over a century by various ancestral cultures around the world.  It provides a natural source of the fat-soluble vitamins A (retinol) and D and in the ratio found in nature, which is 10:1.  The Veritas Arctic Cod Liver Oil does not contain any adulterated or synthetic forms of Vitamin A and D as many other fish oils do in an attempt to get supra-physiologic doses of these naturally occurring ingredients.  We believe that vitamin A and D are meant to be consumed together and in the ratio God intended.  Also, Cod Liver Oil is good source of omega 3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA, but again, not in an adulterated or manipulated form that artificially elevates the doses found naturally occurring in the cod liver.

In the 1920s, Dr. Weston A. Price was studying various indigenous cultures around the globe and identified some common nutritional themes that correlated with health.  His primary finding was that people who were still consuming traditional animal products like organ meats, seafoods and oils from fish livers possessed greater resiliency to disease, including cancer, tuberculosis and cavities.  He identified the fat-soluble vitamins as the primary reason for their tremendous health.  He also found that ancestral societies consuming their traditional diets were getting 10 times more fat-soluble vitamins than the standard American was in the early part of the 1900s.

Some important things to know about the retinol (vitamin A) found in cod liver oil, which is probably the most health-promoting part of the cod liver oil:

-retinol is needed to load copper into the protein ceruloplasmin, which allows it to function as the master antioxidant enzyme called ferroxidase

-retinol is needed to activate the retinol and vitamin D receptors, which are key receptors for genes to be read the right way

-retinol converts to various retinoic acids, which turn on iron regulating proteins (unregulated iron is a major source of oxidative stress)

-retinol is needed for the normal functioning of many metabolic pathways, including beta cell function in the pancreas where insulin is made, normal circadian rhythm, neurogenesis, which is the formation of new nerves, increasing the TH2 immune system, thyroid receptor function, increasing the enzymes that allow us to burn fat (beta oxidation), making the hormone pregnenolone, normalizing the stress hormone cortisol, and many more key metabolic pathways in the body

-also of note, retinol is processed in the liver and high dose, synthetic forms of Vitamin D impedes this process
